Parent Information

’Cane for a Day is a unique experience. Students will be able to see firsthand what life is like if they choose to attend the University of Miami in the fall.

Travel Information

  • Directions to campus: The Campus Visit Guide provides travel tips, a map of the campus, and parking information for after you drop off your son/daughter.
  • Dropping off students: On the scheduled day, the admitted student will check-in and be greeted by the Office of Undergraduate Admission staff and their ’Cane for a Day host. We ask that parents allow students to become immersed in the activities from the time they are dropped off. If you have any questions about the program, you’re welcome to ask an Office of Undergraduate Admission staff member before you drop off your son/daughter.

While the students are enjoying their visit, you, too, can get to know our campus and area. Here are some suggested activities for the day:

  • Campus Tours: Remember that we are still conducting campus tours that parents can join while students are participating in ’Cane for a Day activities. For a full schedule, go to
  • Self-Guided Tours: If you’d rather explore campus on your own, download our self-guided tour.
  • Admitted Student Open House: Families who will participate in ’Cane for a Day are welcome to join us for Future ‘Cane Day on February 23 or April 5, 2020.
  • Grab a Bite: Plenty of dining options are available on-campus, including the Rathskeller, our student-run restaurant!
  • Have a Coffee: At the University of Miami, coffee is as diverse as the campus. You can get cold-brew from a BrewBike, a Cuban cafecito from Vicky Bakery, fair-trade drip coffee from the Billy Goat Cafe, or relax at one of two Starbucks - all right here on campus.
  • Shopping: Our campus store is a great option to get all your official 'Cane Gear. Show off your school spirit and let all our friends know that It's All About the U!
  • Explore Coral Gables and the surrounding area: We encourage parents to explore Coral Gables and other surrounding neighborhoods like Coconut Grove, South Miami, and Brickell, so you’ll get a sense of what our city has to offer. Download our Miami Guide which includes some of our favorite spots in the city.
